Qibla-e-Alam Noor Muhammad Maharvi (ra)
Qibla-e-Alam Hazrat Khwaja Nur Muhammad Maharvi, is
a great Sufi Saint of later Chishttiya Order. After

Ze Noor-e-Muhammad Jahan Roshan Ast."
( The world is lighted by the Noor of Muhammad swm p.b.u.h
)
(Written on the Mohar Mubbarak(stamp) of Qibla-e-Alam)
'When I finally located the whereabouts of my Beloved,
That instant opened the knot of my heart'.
This statement is truth; therein lies no doubt. Salutations
to you who removes calamities and afflictions; Qibla-e-Alam
Hazrat Khwaja Noor Muhammad - the pristine pure. On
his return to Maharsharif after 35 years spent 'in the
service of' his Murshid ( Spirtual Master) learning
Islamic Studies ( Sha'ria) and spirtuality (Taa'riqah)
Qibla-e-Alam Hazrat Khwaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi laid
the corner stone of Chishti Kanqha and spread the spiritual
magnetism (barkat) of Nizami order of famous Chishtiya
Silsla ( chain ) of Taswauf (sufisim) in the area of
present Pakistan.Procedding from 'heart to heart',link
by link it took the shape of a chain ( silsala) called
as Nizami Maharvi branch of Chishtis. Almost all of
the famous Chishti Sufi Saints trace their initiatic
pedigree and lineage through Qibla-e-Alam Khwaja Noor
Muhammad Maharvi.
In
a commentary in Gulshan-e-Ibrar the author Hazrat Imam
Baksh Maharvi writes that Qibla-e-Alam Hazrat Khwaja
Noor Muhammad Maharvi was recognized well before his
birth, author narrates that a dervish (Majzoob) used
to give respect and stand in the honor of His mother
when she was only a little girl. When asked from the
Dervish, he said that he does not give respect to the
little girl but to a great Wali whom she will give birth,
and whose spirtulaity will light the whole world.
Discipline,
and adherence to one's murshid's teachings, whether
one sees the rewards or not, are a sure key to success
in both the worlds. This lesson and more we learn from
Khwaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi (rahmatullahi alaihi).
He was born on 14 Ramadaan 1730AC in Chotala near Mahar
Sharif, Chishtian District of Bahwalnagar present Pakistan.
On his birth he was named as 'Bahbal', the name Noor
Mohammad was later given to him by his Murshid Hazrat
Muhib-Un-Nabi. He began his Qur'anic education at the
tender age of six, and quickly became a hafiz from a
Dars in Dera Gazi Khan, from there he moved to Lahore
for further thrust of Knowledge and became an alim.
After this, he set out on what was to prove a long search
for a shaykh, finally finding himsel in Dehli in the
court of Hazrat Moulana Fakhr Uddin Muhibbun Nabi (rahmatullahi
alaihi). Becoming a mureed, he found that his love for
his shaykh and the internal changes in his heart grew
every day of the 35 years ! that he spent with him.
Initially,
Moulana Fakhr Uddin Dehlvi (rahmatullahi alaihi) gave
him a wazifa to read, which he did punctually and wholeheartedly
every day for years, although seeing no rewards - either
internal or external - for his efforts. After a long
time, Moulana Sahib (rahmatullahi alaihi) asked him
if he had seen any benefits yet. He replied in the negative.
His murshid Hazrat Moulana Fakhar Uddin Dehlvi Muhib-un-Nabi
told him then to reduce his reading of the wazifa, which
he promptly did. After another few days, Moulana Fakhr
Uddin (rahmatullahi alaihi) again asked if there had
been any changes in him, but again he replied that there
had not. Then his murshid told him to cease his recitation
altogether. Immediately upon stopping the wazifa, he
began to notice spiritual changes. Of course, his constant
reading with no results was merely a test designed by
his murshid in order to increase his discipline.Khawaja
Imam Baksh Maharvi in his famous work on Qibla-e-Alam
' Gulshan! -e- Abrar' writes that his affection with
his Murshid Hazrat Muhib UnNabi and Moulana's extra
attention and love towards him made some of his fellow
students jealous. They came up to Maulana Sahib one
day and said that O Hazrat Do you know that this Punjabi
( Qibla-e- Aalam) belongs to the tribe of famous lover
Mirza Kharal who made Sahiban ( beautiful girl) to run
away with him from his parents house. Moulana Fakhar
Uddin smiled and said that Punjabi took away the heart
of only one girl, my this Punjabi will take away the
hearts of millions. Author further narrates that after
the departure of Qibla-e-Alam to Maharsharif from Dehli,
Moulana Fakhar Uddin Fakhar-e-Jahan use to say this
verse in Poorbi while remembering his beloved disciple
' Makhan le gaya Punjabi Chach piyo Sansar'.
In
the company of his Murshid Moulana Sahib, Qibla-e-Alam
once visited the great Darbar of Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj-e-Shakar,
where Moulana Sahib granted leave to Qibla-e-Alam to
visit his mother and other family memebrs in Maharsharif
, which is 60 Kilometers south west of Pakpattan. It
is reported in different books that Qibla-e- Alam use
to pray every Friday prayers for 17 years in Pakpattan.
The total distance covered in these 17 years travel
between Maharsharif and Pakpattan is estimated as 93,000
kilometers. It was only at the elder age and due to
weak health that he started praying the Friday prayers
at the Khanqha of Hazrat Baba Taj Sarwar Sarkar the
grandson of Baba Sahib, in Basti Taj Sarwar,8 Km away
from Maharsharif.
It
is easy to perform any action when rewards accompany
it; the true test of faith is to continue, even though
one sees no benefit from it. After all, in part of a
long hadith, Jibrael (alaihi salaam) states that to
sacrifice in Allah's path is like the sweetness of honey,
but to keep sacrificing in Allah's path is like the
thinness of a hair. Surely it was because of this incident
that he used to say,
'If
a mureed does not follow his shaykh's teachings punctually
and completely, no matter how much he sits in his company,
the shaykh will not recognise him.'
In a commentary in Gulshan-e- Abraar, the author narrates
a hadith that states that one moment's muraaqaba, or
deep contemplation and meditation, is better than performing
seventy years of ceaseless ibaadat. Khwaja Noor Muhammad
(rahmatullahi alaihi) used to be in muraaqaba from fajr
to zawaal every day. After lunch, he would return to
the masjid for further ibaadaat. As is plainly clear,
the sawaab of this daily practice is astronomical, but
we must realise that mere rewards do not concern those
whose every breath is taken in love and reverence for
almighty Allah. Qibla-e-Alam Khwaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi
(rahmatullahi alaihi) had 46 khulafah who were sent
to all corners of the Indo-Pak subcontinent and the
Middle East. One of these was Khwaja Suleyman Taunsvi,
the mighty saint whose wilayah was prophesied even before
his birth by Moulana Fakhrudeen Delhawi (rahmatullahi
alaihi). Khawaja Shah Suleyman Taunsvi said that Qibla-
e-Alam's way of teaching was unique it w! as more like
a treatment of patient , varying from patient to patient
according the severity of the illness. He further says
that Pir-o-Murshid Khawaja Maharvi use to give the lessons
of 'Whadat-ul-Wajood' in closed doors, and no one was
allowed to come in the room while he taught this subject
of great senstivity. Hazrat Taunsvi says that in those
days after Mughrib Prayers and late at night the only
noise heard in Maharsharif was of Zikar-e-Jahar, nafi
asbat. There were hundered and thousands of students
present in Dars in Maharsharif. Some of the teachings
of Khwaja Noor Muhammad (rahmatullahi alaihi) are such
that we can all learn from:
1. The most important duty is to have steadfast faith
in The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings be Upon him), firmness of Imaan, and strict
adherence to the shariah.
2. If you please the creation, you will please the Creator.
3. There are many cures to the sicknesses of the heart,
but if you are not prepared to take the medicine, you
will never be healed.
4. It is essential to realise that you are not sinless.
This realisation is one of Allah's great mercies.
Khwaja Noor Muhammad (rahmatullahi alaihi) used to recite
the following verses:
The beauties of the garden, the singing of the birds
Do not touch my soul at all.
The sorrowful scars of my love for my shaykh Are beauty
enough for me to endure. Qibla-e-Alam Hazrat Khawaja
Noor Muhammad Maharvi is considered as the rivavalist
of Chishti order in large and Chishti Nizami order especially
in present Pakistan area after Hazrat Baba Farid-Uddin
Ganj-e-Shakar. Almost all the Kanqha's of later order
of Chishtiya Nizamiya Sisla are chained through him,
the famous among them are Hajipur Sharif, District Rajanpur
Pakistan. Hafiz Jamal Ullah Multan Pakistan. Taunsa
Sharif, District D.G.Khan, Kot Mithan and Chahrna Sharif,
Bahwalpur Pakistan, Mukhad Sharif District Attock Pakistan,
Sial Sharif District Sargodha, Golra Sharif,Islamabad
Pakistan, Behra Sharif, District Sargodha Pakistan,
Marula Sharif, District Attock Pakistan, Jalalpur Sharif
District Jhelum Pakistan, Khanqha-e- Habibia South Africa
and many many others in India, Pakistan and Middle East.
He
attained union on the 3rd Zil Hajj, 1791 in Mahar Sharif. In
commentary in Gulshan-e-Ibrar Khawaja Imam baksh Maharvi
grand son of Qibla-e-Alam writes that once while attending
the Jumma prayers at Basti of Baba Taj Sarwar said that
he smells the fragrance of love from this place. Thus
he was burried in Basti Taj Sarwar which is now known
to the world as Chishtian Sharif( City of Chishtis).
All the kalipha's ( disciples) present at the time of
his attaining union asked to leave any Wasiyat ( WILL)
or Nasihat ( Advice) for his Ulad ( children), Qibla-e-Alam
said that will for them is that if they kept on respecting
the Saadats ( decendants of Prophet of Islam) and kept
on keeping the shoes of Dervishes in order they will
not be short of anything in their lives till the time
ends.
He
was heard reciting the following verse continuously:
Think of me as still alive. If you come into my body,
I will come into your life.
Ilahi ta ba abad astan-e-yar rahe
Ye asra hai gareebon ka barqarar rahe
This verse is written on main enterance of Astana-e-Qibla
Alam Hazrat Khawaja Noor Muhammd Maharvi in Chishtian
Sharif, Dictrict Bahwalnagar Pakistan.
