Why did the Prophet Mohammad
(Peace and Blessings be Upon him) have many wives?

If someone asks you that question, either in a good or in a bad intention,
will you be able to answer?

Here is the answer, as given in a lecture by Amro Khalid about the
Mothers of the believers ( the Prophet’s wives )

Let’s first ask ourselves, how many wives did the Prophet had?

They were twelve.
When he made pardah from the world
there were ten wives with him,
while Bibi Khadija and Zaynab departed in his life.

But do you know their names, the names of your mothers, the mothers of the believers?

They are:
1. Khadijah Bint Khuwaylid,
2. Sawdah Bint Zamaah,
3. Aaishah Bint Abi Bakr,
4. Hafsah Bint Omar
5. Zainab Bint Khuzaymah
6. Om-salamah Hind Bint Otbah
7. Zainab Bint Jahsh
8. Juwayriyah Bint Alharith
9. Safiyah Bint Huyay Ibn Akhtab Ommo
10. Habibah Ramlah Bint Abi Sofian
11. Maria Bint Shamoun, the Egyptian
12.Maymonah Bint Alharith

Did the Prophet’s (Peace and Blessings be Upon him)
wives married someone for the first time
(i.e. were they all virgins)?

Only one, Aaishah, all the rest were either widows or divorced.

Were they all Arabs?

All, except for Mariya, who was from Egypt.

Where they all Muslims?

All but two; Safiya who was a Jew ,
and Mariya who was a Christian.

Now, let’s answer the main and very important question:
Was it lust that caused the prophet to have so many marriages?

To answer the question we have to mention the following facts:

1- The Prophet (Peace and Blessings be Upon him)
married for the first time when he was 25 years old.

2- The first woman he married , Khadijah was 40 years old already married twice before him and had children. He stayed married to her alone for 25 years, until she died. He stayed single after her death for two years in grief and mourning over her death. He was then 52 years old.

3- From 52 till 60, he married several times for political and social reasons,
not for lust (Naooz Billah)….

After two years of living single, he married Sawdah, an 80 year old widow in order to honor her because she was the first widow in Islam. Not an act of a lustful man after a period of living single.

It’s not logical to say that lust had appeared suddenly at the Prophet’s life at 52, and at the middle of the fierce physical and psychological struggle to spread Islam

There is only one conclusion we can extract from the above:

1- Mohammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon him) the man married Khadijah
2- Mohammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon him) the Prophet married the rest of his wives.

But , was Mohammad (Peace and Blessings be Upon him) the only Prophet to have multiple wives?
Or polygamy was taken by other Prophets as well?

The answer is : NO. Polygamy was the norm at the times of Ibrahim, Dawoud, Solayman, all known in the Bible to have been polygamists.

Now, let’s mention the political, social and religious reasons the prophet had these marriages.

First: To spread the culture through eyewitnesses with all the details known only to intimate people. Aaishah , being so young, was able to tell all those details to the Muslims for more than 42 years. She had seen and learnt so much from him. Her young age was a great advantage in this respect. She could tell what the Prophet used to do or say in all aspects of life, so that people do and say the same in the similar situations…

Aaishah , was the most knowledgeable person when it comes to the daily life of the Muslim and how it should go as was lived by the Prophet himself . But how come he married her when she was only nine years old? The desert climate answers to that . In such environment Girls reached youth very young. Not only in Arabia, but also in Roma and Persia, girls were married that young

Second: To strengthen the relationships with his companions, he married Abi Bakr’s daughter and Omar's sister, married his daughters to Othman and Ali, May God be pleased with them all.

Third: out of mercy and rewarding the early Muslim widows and divorcees he gave them the honor of marrying them himself (Husbands either died in battles or were non Muslims who divorced them.). Sawdah, Om-salama and Habeebah were widows.

Fourth: The Prophet was being a role model for the Muslims being kind to the widows and to the people of the book who newly embraced Islam. He married Safiyah after her father , a Jew, embraced Islam , so giving him and his daughter the honor among his people

Fifth: He wanted to have ties and links with the different nations of the world. When he married Mariya, all Egyptians were on his side, and when he married Gowayriyah, all her people (they were called the Bani Almustalaq and were captured by the Muslims after a battle),, they all embraced Islam

I wish this makes you more assured and able take a
stand up to allegations against the Prophet (pbuh).
May peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all.

PRAY FOR THE UNITY OF THE WHOLE MUSLIM WORLD!

Some Important Reviews relating to " Azwaja-e-Muthahara ( Holy Wives of Beloved Prophet Hazrat Syedina Muhammadur Rasool Allah Sal-lal-lahu-Alaihi-Wo-Sallam ) from the Baiyans ( Top Lectures on Ahle-Baite-e-Athaar by Shaik-ul-Islam Professor Dr. Hazrat Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri Damantu Barkatahu )

Question 1 :
Azwaja-e-Muthahara Sal-lal-lahu-alaihi wo salam retained the Title Zohjah-e-Nabi-e-Kareem or Azwaja-e-Muthara even after the Wisal of Beloved Prophet Hazrat Syedina Muhammadur-Rasool-Allah Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi Wo Salam but the other Womens in the Ummat if they become widows are referred as Bewa of particular Marhoom saheb etc Why ?

Answer 1:
Hazrat Nabi-e-Sal-lal-lahu-Alaihi wo Sallam is present in all eras ( Huzoor Har Daur Mein Majood Hain ) for this you can refer all the Sahih Hadees and references from Quran kareem for the presence of Beloved Prophet in All ages and He is the Nabi Akhir-un-Zama Hayath-un-Nabi Sal-lal-lahu alaihi wo sallam and no Nabi will come until Qayamah for this reason the holy wives of Rahmat-ul-'Alameen Hazrat Syedina Muhammad-ur-Rasool are refered as Zohjah-e-Nabi e Akhram Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi wo Salam till qayamat whereas no other womens in Ummah can get such a status as compared to other womens of the Ummah. So All Sahab-e-Ikhram Rizwan Allahi Thaalah Alaihi Ajmaeen gave the same title of Respect to his Holy wives ( Ummul Momineen ( Mother of Momins ) / Ahle-Bait / Zohja-e-Muttahara / Azwaja-e-Muttahara ). Allah has declared the holy wives as Sacred and Muthara ( Clean ) in the Quran Surahe-e-ahzaab itself and Azwaja-e-Muttahara ( wives of Beloved Prophet Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi Wo Sallam ) cannot be compared with any women on this earth and they will remain in the same status till qayamat. All the Rishtas ( Relations) of the world wives will vanished but the Rishtas of the Holy wives of the beloved Prophet cannot vanish and will remain the same till Qayamat. All the Khulfa-e-Rasheedins and Sahaba-e-Ikhrams Rizwan Allahi Thaalahi Alaihim Ajmaeen had the Iman and Aqeedah of " Hayath-ul-Nabi " Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi Wo Sallam with regards to Beloved Prophet Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi Wo Sallam , the same aqeedah was followed by Thabayeens, Taba Thabayeens and other Saleheens and All Auliyasof the Ummah, till Qayamat.

Question No. 2 :
For what reason the wives are considered as Ahle Bait or How they are Ahle Bait ?
Answer No.2 : If any women in the ummah becomes widow, then she will return to back to her Actual Bait . This Widow after Iddath period can do another Nikah which is Halal for Widows after the completion of Iddath period.
Coming to the point of Azwaja-e-Muttahara Razi Allah Anhas, they are termed as Ahle Bait Ahthaar only because of possessing the Zohjiyath ( Wifeship ) of the Beloved Prophets. Only after the Nikah with beloved Prophet they got the status of Ahle Bait Ahthaar. So it was declared once they become Ahle Bait, Nikah with others was Haram on the sacred wives of the beloved Prophet. And there was no Iddath period for these sacred and holy wives even after the wisal of beloved prophet sal-lal-lahu alaihi wo sallam and till Qayamat their Rishtas ( relation ) will remain they same and shall be called as Azwaja-e-Muttahara or Zohjas who are also " Umul Momins" ( Mothers of the Momins ).

Question No. 3 : Who are all Ahle Bait Ahthars ?
Answer No.3 :
From many Ah-Hadees Mubarakas ( also for correct Tarjuma - Sahih Tarjumas of Quran-e-kareem ) and as Narrated by Hazrat Zaid bin Arkam Razi Allahu Anhu in Muslim Shareef and other great imams, Ahle Bait Ahthars are all childrens of Hazrat Ali Rizwan Allahi alaihim Ajmaeen, Hazrat Jaffer Razi Allahu Thaalah Anhu, Hazrat Aqeel Razi Allahu Anhu and Hazrat Abbas Razi Allahu Anhu are known as Ahle Bait-e-Ahthaar because of their blood relationships with the beloved Prophet Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi wo salam . This is why Sadaqa / Zakath was Haram on the Ahle Bait Athar. Apart from this wives of prophet sal lal-lahu alaihi wo sallam got this title only because of their Zohjiyath. But other bloodly relations, daughers and childrens are Ahle Bait because of their blood relationship with beloved prophet sal-lal-lahu alaihi-wo-sallam.

Question No. 4 :
All Azwaja-e-Muttaharas got Double Ajar-e-sawab But Even Sahabas use to get Single Ajars ? why ?
Answer No. 4 :
In Quran this is mentioned because Azwaja-e-Muttahara Razi Allah Anhas had great Khaas Talooq, Nisbat with beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi wo sallam and also because of their Zohjiyath ( wifeship ) with Beloved Prophet Sal-lal-lahu-Alaihi-wo-salam. Azwaja-e-Muthaharas are special among all the womens of this earth till qayamat because of their status mentioned in the quran. ( That is why Islam gives high Status to Womens ). The word Ikhram used for Sahaba-e-Ikhram" is because of their Buzurgi but "Ahthar" ( Clean & pure ) is used for Ahle Bait Ahthar means clean and purity. So the Ajwar or Sawab for Azwaja-e-Mutthaharas was double when compared to Sahaba-e-Ikhrams. No sahabi among 1,25,000 Sahabas Rizwan allahi alaihim ajmaeen were authorized or had right to marry to Azwaja-e-Nabi-e-Kareem Sal lallahu alaihi wo sallam after his wisal-e-mubarak that is why Nikah was declared haram with Azwaja-e-Muthaharas. All the Khulaf-e-Rasheedins and Sahaba-e-Ikhrams Rizwan Allahi Thaalah Alaihim Ajmaeen had great respect and love for the Ahle Bait in Hayath-e-Zaheri and had the same love and respect after the wisal of the Beloved Prophet Sal-lal-lahu Alaihi wo Sallam also. When Khulafa-e-Rasheedins themselves had such a greater lover of Hasnain Kareemain ( Hazrat Imam Hasan and Hazrat Imam Hussain Rizwan Allahi Thaalah Alaihim ajmaeen what we can say about the love and respect of other sahaba-e-Ikhrams which is being narrated in various Ah-hadees-e-mubarakas.

Questions :
Is Prostituations and Open Sins ( Be-Hayayee ) are Better or Legal Marriages ?
No other Religion of the World has given such great status to womens like Islam.
Beloved Prophet has set an example to Marry Widows and extend support to the needy and weak. But there are conditions and laws in Islam which revealed by the almighty allah in the quran to give equality to all wives if a person is in a status to marry more than one wife. So Legal Marriages elimate all evils like prostitutions, injustice with womens etc. If the number of Widows or womens are left without legal marriages , they may take wrong diversions. Most of the people in the world have misunderstanding about marriages in Islam. Without having complete knowledge of Islam or without understand islamic studies wrongly point out about the marriages of the beloved prophet sal-lal-lahu alaihi wo sallam. But these people don't understand the difference between legal marriages and prostitution. Now see in this era even after having efficient wealth and resources a vast majority of people do not have gurds to marry they move backwords to bond with responsibilities after marriages. In this Era it is very easy and easy to do sins ( to go wrong ways ) but marriages have become difficult for the modern age people. All the wives of the beloved prophet sal-lal-lahu alaihi wo sallam were happy in their lives because they received equal love and all rights and respect which no religion can provide on this earth. No Personality on this earth is such great like beloved prophet sal-lal-lahu-alaihi wo-sallam who married widows and gave all right and equality and that too all the wives were holy and pious and even Prophet was able to concentrate both on family and worship without any hazzles. What a example of Piousness and purity. Where you will find such a great religion and such a great prophet of humanity and mankind.

I feel sorry if there is any mistake or beadbi from my side. My
Neeyath is purely to bring good points related to Sahaba e Ikhram and
Ahle Bait-e-Ahthaar and Islam.
